I made this dish of sautéed chard and beet tops, asparagus, broad beans, burrata and red chilli. It was served with the raw beetroot carpaccio with grapes and nasturtium.

Sometimes I have mad panics and think I’ll run o

Sometimes I have mad panics and think I’ll run out of ideas in the kitchen… and then I remember that you don’t always need to come up with something new. Just choose really great ingredients and put them together simply.

Today’s creative slump was followed by sourdough with olive oil mashed feta, sliced ripe figs, toasted walnuts and honey. Drizzled with more extra virgin olive oil and scattered with cracked black pepper.

It lifted me from my gloom and made me wonder why this wasn’t on the brunch menu we enjoyed at the weekend… it’s a breakfast/brunch/quick lunch/cozy Sunday supper winner in my view.

Another simple broth soup with veg from the garden. This time flavoured with brown rice miso, amazing rice vinegar with bonito and kombu and floated with these delicious tofu knots. A great example of store cupboard supper using whatever fresh stuff you can find in your fridge and a few carefully chosen pantry staples.

I know I do a lot of broth soups… but there are multiple reasons - beyond their deliciousness! : homemade chicken bone broth in constant supply (it’s easy just boil some bones with aromatics and a splash of vinegar to release the goodness from the bones and freeze), multiple ways to flavour; miso, coconut, soy, all manner of aromatics, uses up leftover rice, noodles, can take any veg/greens you have lying around and takes minutes to put together. This one has some little pork and prawn balls with a few Thai style flavours thrown in. Blitzed together and rolled into balls before oven roasting till lovely and brown. A real family favourite.
